Make simple household quilt covers

If you have time and some small hobbies in handicrafts, and know how to use a sewing machine, you can try to make some small things you want by yourself.

Method/Steps

1、 use a flexible tape measure to measure the length and width of the quilt cover you need to make. Of course, this can be determined based on the size of your bed or your lifetime size, and make a mark.

2、based on the measured dimensions, reserve a certain amount of sewing width and water-locking width. The amount of shrinkage should be determined by the material of the fabric. Generally speaking, reserving about 5 centimeters is sufficient. Of course, this still depends on your proficiency in sewing. After the overall width and length are determined, cut according to the final length. When cutting, it is best to have professional tools. If not, it is better to use relatively sharp scissors and cut with the help of others. In this way, the edges of the cut will be neater and cleaner. It’s best to lock the fabric.

3、fold the cut fabric in half to shape the quilt cover, align the four corners, and it’s best to use a steam ironing machine to flatten it. If not available, it’s okay. After aligning the four sides, simply fix it with staples. First, sew the two ends of the quilt cover (that is, the head and the tail) together. It is best to choose the color of the sewing thread that is close to that of the fabric. After sewing both ends, place the zipper on the side. Of course, if you prefer a horizontal zipper, you can choose either end to sew one. What I’m mainly talking about here is the side zipper. The method is the same for all. It depends on your own preference. Installing the zipper might be a bit difficult during the manufacturing process, but it’s okay. When installing the zipper, you can press the foot of the sewing machine around the single-sided zipper foot. This might be better. When the zipper is completed, the duvet cover is basically done.

4、for the newly made quilt cover, you can try putting it on the quilt. If it doesn’t fit, it can still be modified. It is best to wash the new quilt cover with water first and then use it after it is dry.

Precautions

Household electric sewing machines must be used with care. It is best to unplug them if not in use.

When reserving sewing width and shrinkage width, it is best to leave more rather than less.
